• The Bible is not a series of disconnected stories. It is a single narrative in which every story points to Jesus.
• Disappointment shows up in the tense of our sentences — the men on the road spoke of Jesus entirely in the past.
• When Jesus asks a question in Scripture, it is not because he does not know the answer, but because he wants us to begin to understand it.
• Jesus did not first show them his face; he opened the Scriptures. Even when we cannot see him, we can find him in his word.
