Why Did Jesus Have to Die? - The Complete Service
Isaiah 53, written 650-700 years before Christ's birth, provides one of the most remarkable prophecies about Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. The passage describes the suffering servant who would be pierced for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities, bringing peace between God and humanity. Like sheep who have gone astray, we all needed a shepherd to rescue us from our wandering. Jesus fulfilled both roles of the Day of Atonement - the sacrificial lamb whose blood paid for our sins and the scapegoat who carried our sins away. When Jesus cried "It is finished" from the cross, He had accomplished perfect salvation through His perfect sacrifice. We must never become comfortable with the cross or treat it as ancient history, but rather let its weight move us to deeper gratitude and commitment.
