The Line
Draw one long line across a piece of paper, left to right. Each person marks their week on it — up for the good bits, down for the bad, in order. Do not explain while you draw. Then look at the shapes together. Most weeks are not a slope, they are a zigzag, and that is the whole point of the lesson.

God, we cannot see the whole picture and we are not going to pretend we can. Help us trust you on the down days as much as the up ones.
What We Did Sunday
We told the story of Joseph — the well, the slavery, the prison, and the man who ended up feeding the people who put him there.
What they learned Sunday
Joseph spent thirteen years in a well, a slave house and a prison before any of it made sense
His brothers threw him in a well, pulled him out, sold him to traders, and told their father an animal had eaten him. In Egypt he worked his way up to running a rich man's household, then went to prison for something he did not do. He helped a fellow prisoner who promised to put in a word for him, and who then forgot about him for two years. Then Pharaoh had a dream, somebody finally remembered him, and by that evening he was running the country's food supply through a seven-year famine. When his starving brothers turned up not recognising him, he fed them — and told them that what they meant for evil, God meant for good.

Joseph got promoted, then jailed, then promoted, then forgotten. His life is a zigzag, not a slope.

Today they walked through Joseph's ups and downs with their whole bodies. Ask which part they thought was the lowest.
What was the lowest point in the story?
His brothers came to buy food and did not recognise him. He had every bit of the power in that room, and he fed them.
What would you have done?
"You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good." He does not say it was not evil. He says God was working anyway.
What is the difference between those two things?

The Down Day Call
Find one person this week who is having a down day and go sit near them. Not to fix it — you cannot, and trying is usually worse. Just be the person who noticed. Ask one question and then be quiet long enough for them to answer it properly.
