64. 47:14 Because he's a God who's in control He's a God that can take anything we find ourselves in And use it for his glory and our good And our job is not to be successful It is to be faithful by trusting him It wasn't long ago That I met a man that was burned from head to toe Every part of his body had a third degree burn on it And I looked at him And I heard his story And at some point he looked at me And he could tell I was feeling terribly sorry for him And he called me out He said, don't you feel sorry for me?
65. 47:54 This is the best thing that's ever happened to me And I looked at him And I looked at a picture of what he used to be A handsome strapping young man Now he was an older man Covered in third degree burns With a few strands of hair And a terribly deformed face And I said, forgive me But how can you say that?
66. 48:16 And he said, these scars Have brought more hope to people Than I could have ever dreamed of Or imagined without them My life found purpose in the pain Because God took what is broken And he used it for what is now The greatest privilege and good of my life Sometimes gratitude is recognizing It's not about being broken over what is lost But rejoicing in what is left And how God can use it for his glory And your and my good So no matter where you find yourself You praise him And you thank him And you trust him Because this is what faith looks like And in the midst of our praises In the midst of our gratitude God promises to meet us Right where we are The scripture says If you draw near to me I will draw near to you And so tonight I want to give us a chance To do just that I want to lead us in a time of prayer Where we just cast our cares To the Lord And we thank him for the storms And we thank him for the good times And we together out loud Just say God thank you For whatever it is You need to thank him for tonight Will you pray with me?
67. 49:32 Lord we read your word And it says that we are to be joyful always Sometimes we are God And a lot of times we're not But this is what you've called us to I know each person in this room Wants to know your specific will for their life I know I know I do But God your general will for all of us is so clear You want us to Rejoice no matter where we are, and it's impossible for us to do that in our own strength.
68. 50:05 But God, but God, if you come in and you redeem and you restore, and we trust you, and we know your goodness and your grace, and you are able, and with you all things are possible, we can begin to rejoice no matter where we find ourselves.
69. 50:22 And God, that is the desire of our heart. And it says that we are to pray without ceasing. I don't know how to go about doing that, God. But I know it is a reminder that every second and moment of our life, we are to be reminded that you are with us.
70. 50:38 You are for us. You are working all things together for good to those who love you and who have been called according to your purpose. And so, God, may we find purpose in our pain, knowing that you can redeem and restore, and you can take what is broken and make it right.
71. 50:56 And so, God, that is why we give you thanks. Not for everything, but in everything, we give you thanks. So tonight, hear us as we thank you out loud together as a congregation. Lord, I hope you can hear their prayers, because I hear nothing.

75. 52:18 I'm a recovering youth pastor. And for me to look out and see so many young people here tonight. From my vantage point, you're all pretty young. But I'm talking about the young young here tonight. And that you're singing and praising and lifting your hands. It's just wonderful. I've worked and prayed for a lot of years to see this happen.
76. 52:37 And thanks to James and his launch team. And the efforts of a lot of our existing members. It's just great to see this here tonight. I want to do something a little different with you now. If you were with us back in the summertime, we did our worship night. I introduced something to you then. And I'll either reintroduce this to you or introduce you for the first time.
77. 52:56 There's an old liturgical form of prayer. It means something that people used to do in ages gone by. They called it a bidding prayer. And that's where whoever was up front leading would say, I bid you, to the people of God, he'd say, I bid you now to pray for, and lead them through several movements of prayer.
78. 53:16 Praying for different things. People who are sick. People who are hurting. People who are lost. People who are persecuted, et cetera, et cetera. That language is a little stilted for me. I've never said to anybody, I bid you now do anything. Okay? So, I'm going to turn it into an invitational prayer.
79. 53:33 What I want to do now is just ask you to pray along with me. And I'm going to invite you to pray for people you know or people you're aware of, whatever, who are in need of prayer. And first, we'll start with those who are sick, those who are injured, maybe those who are in the hospital. I invite you to pray for those people.
80. 53:49 And just say their name out loud where you are. Not to say it loudly, but just speak the name out loud. Then when you're done with that, I'll ask us to move on and pray for the next section. There are about six or seven areas of prayer I'll ask you to join me in. And then when we're done, I'll ask you to join me in saying the Lord's Prayer.
81. 54:05 Okay? So, I'll lead. And you feel free to speak the names of whoever it is you're praying for, the situation you're praying for. In just a few minutes, we'll conclude this time of prayer. Our Lord and our God, we thank you again for the privilege we have to meet here this evening and just to worship you openly and freely and without fear of persecution or harassment.
82. 54:28 But we are so grateful to live in a country that prioritizes and safeguards freedom of religion. We celebrate that here this evening. And Lord, as we're gathered now, as your people, we lift our hearts before you. We bring these, our friends, our loved ones, the situations we're aware of.
83. 54:47 We lift them before you now. So, I would invite you to pray for those who are in need of healing. Father, I pray for my dear friends, Fabiana, Gigi, Debbie, Lord, those who are maybe still in the hospital, those who are recovering.

88. 56:31 If you know them by name, or if you just know the country or the arena that they're serving in, if you know people who are being persecuted for their Christian faith, I invite you to lift them up before the Lord now. Our sovereign Lord, as we sit here tonight, again, in relative peace and security, so many of our brothers and sisters around the world are suffering greatly.
89. 57:05 Can't even name the name of Jesus out loud or have a Bible in their homes. They certainly can't attend worship services publicly for fear of what will happen to them, their lives, their health, their property, their families, their homes.
90. 57:22 Such danger. We pray, Lord, for their liberation, that you would undertake for them. And I pray specifically tonight for your people in Nigeria. Such terrible persecution. So many brothers and sisters lost. Lord, we pray that you would defend them.
91. 57:38 And I pray especially for our dear sister, Kemi, and her family. Lord, that you would put an end to the persecution. Lord, we'd like you to pray with me against the evil of human trafficking here in Miami and all over, but especially here in our city. We pray against this filth in our town until it is gone.

162. 1:32:02 Hello, everyone. Good evening. It's quite an honor to be here, especially on this first worship night as Christ Church. Thank you so much, Pastor James, for inviting me to share my testimony. Before I begin, I'd like to just start in prayer.
163. 1:32:21 So please join me in prayer. Heavenly Father, you're good and gracious. We thank you for the opportunity to come here together as brothers and sisters in Christ and worship you. We know that there are many people in this world right now who don't have the freedom to do that.
164. 1:32:37 They're persecuted. So we thank you, Lord. We thank you for also for the growth of this church and for all the people who came out tonight to be here. And, Lord, I thank you for the opportunity to share my story, which this story is really your story.
165. 1:32:53 All the bad stuff, that's me. The great, miraculous stuff, that's all you. So I pray that your Holy Spirit speaks through me and share the story in a way that will hopefully connect with people and draw them closer into a relationship with you.
166. 1:33:09 And I pray this all in the mighty name of your son, Jesus. Amen. So, again, I'm Patrick Harrington. I guess I'll start at the beginning. I grew up in a suburb of Chicago. And in many ways, I'm the youngest of four.
167. 1:33:27 In many ways, I had a very fairytale childhood, I would have to say. My parents were very loving. My siblings were. And God gifted me in a lot of ways. I was a very, from the beginning, I was a very talented athlete, particularly in swimming.
168. 1:33:44 I got good grades. And I remember thinking back on that time, and it was just, I had joy all the time. And as a family, we attended church. And we went pretty regularly. But at that point, maybe it was my ADD or whatnot.
169. 1:34:03 But church, when I was younger, just didn't connect with me. You know, I had a general belief in God. I understood that Jesus died on the cross. I really didn't understand why he died on the cross. If someone asked me at that time, you know, if you die today, where are you going to go? I know my answer would have been, well, pretty sure I'll go to heaven because, you know, I've been a good person.
170. 1:34:23 I haven't killed anybody. That honestly was my belief for many, many years. The idea of salvation by grace was not something that I understood at all. And as time went on, I continued and was very successful in sports, went off to college, and I was a swimmer for a couple years.
171. 1:34:43 And I guess, as you'll see, the main theme of my story comes down to identity. Because the way that I formed my identity when I was younger was based on my accomplishments and seeing myself as a, you know, a good student and a star athlete.
172. 1:34:58 And I didn't realize it at the time, but now I realize it looking back. After my sophomore year, I decided to quit swimming. And at that point, I had a major identity crisis because all of a sudden I went from being the star athlete to who am I?
173. 1:35:15 I didn't, I had no idea. And I didn't really think about it that deeply at the time, but I was like, all right, now what do I do? And I wasn't really that interested in focusing on studying in college. I was in a fraternity, and so I just dove right into all the things that the world told me or that I had an idea would bring me joy and fulfillment, which was partying, drinking, chasing women while I was in college.
174. 1:35:43 And then after college, you know, then my focus became on making money. And that's what, that's, that's who I was at that point. And I guess I, the next identity that I formed, it was still kind of similar. It was based on my accomplishments.
175. 1:35:58 But now I added in kind of this playboy lifestyle, which I think is pretty typical in our culture, unfortunately, these days. And I thought there was nothing wrong with that, because that's what I was seeing all my friends doing. And, you know, that was the message I was getting from the world.
176. 1:36:14 I didn't think there's really anything wrong with it. But now as I look back, I see that, you know, the, you know, I didn't know the Bible at the time, obviously. But I see how sin is a very slippery slope. And, you know, where I first had gotten okay with, well, premarital, you know, premarital relations, we'll say.
177. 1:36:33 I don't know if we have younger kids here, was okay. But then after that, it, you know, became worse. And I started to live more of this hedonistic lifestyle. And for, after I went to business school, I was in Los Angeles. Once I finished business school, then that lifestyle really took on rocket fuel.
178. 1:36:52 I got really into the nightclub, nightlife in L.A. And then for a couple years, then I moved to South Florida in 2007 and continued that in Miami for quite some years. And that's, it's amazing when I look back, that's all I would think about.
179. 1:37:09 On a Friday like this, that that's what I was, my sole focus for the weekend was where was I going to go out. And, but as time went on, I knew something was wrong. I was longing for something. I didn't know what it was, but there was a hole in my heart.
180. 1:37:27 And I kept trying to fill it with all these things of the world, with alcohol, with, you know, sex, with, you know, substances. And it kept getting worse and worse. And I really didn't like who I was. And I was walking around regularly with, with this, this weight of shame and guilt on my shoulders.
181. 1:37:46 And a lot of times there are things that I, and I knew, okay, I've got to change this. This isn't working. But I really was powerless to change it. And, but what was continuing to fuel that was I was still making a lot of money. And, but then in 2009, everything changed with the recession. The business that I had moved here to South Florida to start in real estate collapsed.
182. 1:38:05 And all of a sudden, that identity that I had formed for myself of being this successful businessman and, you know, this playboy, whatever, now it all fell apart. I no longer could really even provide for myself. And I, then at that point, I didn't, you know, didn't really know who I was.
183. 1:38:23 And I was embarrassed. And it, and it, it led me into deep depression. And the next couple of years were pretty dark. Um, I lived on the, the 20th floor of a condo building in Fort Lauderdale. And I was having some very dark thoughts.
184. 1:38:39 I'll just leave it at that. Um, I, I would wake up regularly at night having, I, I believe I was being demonically attacked. I would wake up in the middle of the night screaming because I was having all these demonic dreams. I even had a roommate who came to me. He's like, I feel like this dark presence here.
185. 1:38:54 And I'm like, yeah, me too. So anyways, uh, moving on in, in 2011, it really started to come to a head and I felt my world was collapsing in on me and I just could not do it anymore. And so I remember one night I got on my knees and, uh, prayed to God.
186. 1:39:11 And I said, God, if you're there, you've got to show yourself to me because I'm at the end of my rope. I can't do this anymore. And sure enough, he did. Um, incredibly, I, uh, I called a buddy said, Hey, I know I just need to go to church. I don't know where, but I just, I need to go to church.
187. 1:39:28 It's like when you're, you've been walking in the desert and you're so thirsty and all of a sudden you get a drink of water. That's, that, that's what it was like for me. So I went to this church. It's a mega church in, uh, in Fort Lauderdale. Pastor walks out, he's dressed kind of like I am jeans, very casually, which was different from the type of church that I grew up with.
188. 1:39:48 But he walks out and there's probably, I don't know, 1500 people in this, uh, you know, in this, this auditorium or sanctuary and he gave a sermon and I've heard hundreds of sermons since then. But this. particular sermon was exactly catered to me.
189. 1:40:03 It's like he was speaking directly to me and I started you know getting emotional and bawling during the middle of the service and then at the end he gave an opportunity for people an invitation for people to come up and accept Jesus. I didn't know really know what that meant but I just felt compelled to do it.
190. 1:40:20 So I went up accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and then I was like okay now what? But then through a truly miraculous set of circumstances right after that I ended up attending a Bible study here in well in Coral Gables and it's called Bible Study Fellowship.
191. 1:40:38 You might have heard of it. It's actually nationwide I think worldwide and I started going and God gave me exactly what I needed. He surrounded me with some extremely intelligent mature Christian men who just loved on me and poured knowledge into me and they helped me do a really deep dive into the Bible to to understand you know what it was saying and that it was true and and with their with them as my mentors and and going through this the the study I came to realize that Christianity is meaningful not only because it satisfied the hole that was in my heart the deep longing that I had but because it's true intellectually it's true and I guess my idea that I had when I was younger was that oh you know if you believe in Jesus you just have to set your brain aside and blindly believe.
192. 1:41:35 When I started attending a Bible study and really diving in and doing it in a study with other men I realized it was the exact opposite. It was God designed us and gave us a brain and he wants us to use it and I came to realize see all the connections between the Old Testament and the New Testament and the light bulb went off and I was like this is really true.
193. 1:41:56 Then I also got into apologetics which is the study of the objective evidence you know for the existence of God the validity of the Bible the historical validity of Jesus Christ and that only that you know that showed to me that that the the the evidence and the truth of Christianity is just overwhelming and so I now look back and that was you know when I became a Christian was in 2011.

197. 1:43:35 There's nothing wrong with it. The problem is when you make that everything the most important that's the problem. I now I now realize that where I get my identity is from the fact that there is truly a creator of the universe. He exists as real as we are right here today right now.

I was using the gifts and talents that I had for the wrong team for a long time and it led to such heartache and pain and I unfortunately I think there's a lot of young people today older people as well but young people who are falling into the same lies that I fell into for so many years and so now as much time as I have left on this earth, I'm about to turn 54, I want to use what I have, the gifts besides being a good father and a good husband and providing for my family, I want to do everything I can to serve God to be a soldier for him and to use me however he wants to use me but you know primarily I hope it's to bring as many people into the into heaven as I can and I think we should all hopefully have that that mindset.
